The brain isn't being "fooled", it's getting information the way it normally does.

The Nintendo 3DS is just the start. Samsung may have downplayed the possibility of glasses-free 3D tvs (most likely because they're invested in a glasses based technology and would like to sell you what they have on the shelves now, not something in 3 years), but they hedged their bets, investing $15 million in Master Image, who make autostereoscopic displays.

Right now the state of the art is a 15-20" autostereo display with about a 20 deg viewing angle. When they get that up to 30 inches with a 60 deg viewing angle, most of the objections to 3D will go away and 2D will be like black & white.

BTW, if you want to experiment with 3D, all you need are a couple of the right models of Canon Powershot cameras and a freeware utility called Stereo Data Maker that takes care of shutter sync etc. If you get the cameras at a pawn shop you can put together a 3D rig for less than $100. For more information, just do a search on Stereo Data Maker.autothreadshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12922732992155191413noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3893665144141962944.post-8790854201936776342011-05-11T11:51:54.271-07:002011-05-11T11:51:54.271-07:00I'm blind in one eye, so I want 3-D to die.
E...I'm blind in one eye, so I want 3-D to die.

Every previous innovation in this kind of medium hasn't left anyone behind -- color-blind people can still watch color TV even if they can't distinguish colors; people with blurred vision might not be able to appreciate the increased granularity of 1080p HD, but they can see it just as well as SDTV. 3-D, on the other hand, leaves a segment of the population totally unable to watch.

Other people might get a lot out of 3-D images, but when looking at it with my personal interests in mind, I hope 3-D dies a quick death.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3893665144141962944.post-43097586621012160942011-04-15T00:07:03.382-07:002011-04-15T00:07:03.382-07:00quote:

Since wages aren't going up but prices are (because of the rise in oil prices), we have to pick-and-choose what we will buy more than in the past. I, and most of the people I know, only go out to movies for the epics and blockbusters now, and I think that trend will continue. Basically, we want to see something grandiose in THX, on the big screen, at least once before receding to our home theaters, and I don't see that changing in my lifetime.Camel Feethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16710755600126093475noreply@blogger.com
