In my not so humble opinion, I believe that a lot of males (young and old) have moved to gaming as an entertainment medium. Take a look at Halo: Reach, Call of Duty, etc. Total immersion in an alternate reality. Not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thing, but it is a lot more fun than watching Two men and a boy or any other of the PC clap trap.programmerhttp://oldgeek43@yahoo,comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3893665144141962944.post-76578849615207123722010-09-26T15:31:52.829-07:002010-09-26T15:31:52.829-07:00Anon, see my latest post. The show to me seems to lack the action-adventure quotient needed for guys, as well as the moral code guys like.

As for Good Guys, my view is that like more male-oriented "Life" it suffers from being on a female-medium, broadcast TV, that most guys have written off other than football broadcasts.

The past thirty years of exclusive female-dom in TV have had their cost, almost no guys watching.Whiskeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01854764809682029464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3893665144141962944.post-5983037084317804432010-09-26T13:43:35.252-07:002010-09-26T13:43:35.252-07:00You put a lot of blame on the cable networks, but ...You put a lot of blame on the cable networks, but really a lot of the blame should be placed on the cable providers. They have been deliberately undercut their internet capabilities in a mutual back srtching affair with the networks. The reason they do this is because they do not want want to be converted into generic "bit-pipe" utilities and if it means gettng lesser profits so be it.

"Men of course, form the majority of technology early adopters, so are a prime target, but women would have to find the entertainment desirable as well, given their robust participation (about half) in the technology consumption marketplace, for organic growth after an initial adoption."

What you're describing is the Wife Acceptance Factor problem. Alternatives to traditional TV require too much technical savvy from women and that's a big turn off to them in more ways than one.

P.S. The four quadrants don't exist anymore, because the hate-filled, divisive "movements" have split American society into mutually-loathing groups, as exemplified in academia by 'studies' departments. (There is, of course, one group omitted from the studies departments, one group which never riots when the police publicly murders one of them for being uppity [see Erik Scott] because that group itself has been split by hatred.)

The market for a religious demographic exists only in theory, as majoritarian Catholics, Mormons, and Protestants don't think of themselves as a group in the way that La Raza does.

"Human Target" may be male-skewing in intent or audience (I don't think so), but it's awful. The trouble with the X Files was that it got, as you say 'edgy' a little more than half way through its run by moving the filming to LA and adding a contrived romantic relationship that helped to destroy the show.

But, if they wanted to get back a strong male audience, they ought to let Chris Carter work his magic again with something new.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
